The Onward Trading Company and partners utilise marine furniture produced only under the guidance of the "Thai Furniture Industries Association" (TFIA) and in accordance with Thai law regulating the conservation of the countries natural forests.
In 1989 the Thai Government placed a ban on logging and the destruction of natural forest resources. However, in anticipation of this event the government began replenishing its forests over 50 years ago by allowing the private sector to lay out plantation forests that include Teak, Rosewood, several hard-woods and fast growing Rubber Woods (Parawood), Eucalyptus, Acrocarpus Fraxinifolius & Acacia Tomentosa.
All the timber used by members of the TFIA is lawfully and sustainably obtained from plantation forest resources whose methods of control and replenishment are in accordance with industry leaders around the world.
Additionally, by using only FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified timber in our Neptune garden furniture range, we are supporting better management of the world’s forests.
As a result Onward Trading can be sure of the very best quality of sustainable timber from which its furniture is made. The subsequent attention to joinery and detail is evident in every piece shipped out to customers who have come to expect the highest standards required for a long life in a marine environment.
However, it is a sad truth that Teak and other hardwoods are sourced from some areas ungoverned by law. The result is the tragic deforestation of some of the oldest and most diverse environments on earth. The results are far reaching and in many cases, irreparable. Land erosion, the subsequent flooding and dangerous landslides along with the potential extinction of countless species of wildlife are just a few examples of why you must consider not only the style and quality of the hardwood furniture you buy, but also how and where its been sourced and manufactured.
We stand proudly behind all our timber so our customers can sit comfortably and with a clear conscience!
